New Model X and S Standard Range
Tesla has taken a significant step by launching a ‘standard range’ variant to its Model S and Model X vehicles, making the most prestigious vehicles it offers more affordable. The Model S Standard Range starts at $78,490, offering a range of 320 miles per charge, coupled with a 3.7-second 0 to 60 and a top speed of 149 mph. While the Model X Standard Range, prices at $88,490 and offers a range of 269 miles, 4.4-second 0 to 60 and shares the same top speed. Also, unlike the recent changes to the standard color of the Model 3 and Y, both of these new models come standard with the Pearl White Multi-Coat paint. This strategic move provides an accessible entry point into Tesla’s luxury EV lineup, bridging the price gap between their entry-level and luxury models, catering to customers in pursuit of a harmonious blend of affordability and luxury. These new variants are slated for delivery between September and October 2023.
Tesla Launches Universal Charger for All EVs
Tesla is introducing the Universal Wall Connector, a charging solution designed to bridge the gap between Tesla owners and other electric vehicle (EV) users. This connector integrates the J1772 standard, a common choice for non-Tesla EV charging in North America. This integration is particularly noteworthy due to a broader trend in the automotive sector where major brands such as Ford, GM, Mercedes, Nissan, Rivian, and more are aligning with Tesla’s North America Charging Standard (NACS). While this transition is underway, many non-Tesla EVs are currently using the J1772 connector. Tesla’s Universal Wall Connector steps in as a bridge during this transition. It serves Tesla owners while accommodating anyone driving an EV utilizing the J1772 standard. The connector enables effortless switching between J1772 and Tesla’s NACS connectors, catering to all EVs. With a charging speed of up to 44 miles of range per hour and an adaptable design, it's priced at $595 in the USA and $785 in Canada. Tesla's new Universal Wall Connector is the only home charging option that can charge any electric vehicle, showcasing Tesla’s commitment to a cohesive and inclusive electric future.
Elon Musk’s 99% AI FSD Promise
Elon Musk recently provided updates on Tesla's upcoming Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta releases - versions 11.4.7 and 12. In response to a request from a tester on Twitter/X, Musk indicated that v11.4.7 will be made widely available for download in approximately a week. He also noted that Tesla's quality assurance team is currently testing v12 (the first version that will graduate from beta), and he reiterated his description of it as "mind-blowing," marking the second time in two weeks that he's used this term to describe it. According to Musk, FSD v12 represents a complete overhaul and will rely on artificial intelligence for 99% of its operations, bringing Tesla closer to achieving true autonomous driving. The imminent release of v11.4.7 is likely to address minor issues and deliver incremental updates, setting the stage for an enhanced experience with v12.
Cybertrucks, Cybertrucks Everywhere
The Tesla Cybertruck seems poised for deliveries as truckloads of Cybertrucks are being shipped from Gigafactory Texas. Sightings of these trucks within the last week have occurred in several locations, including California, Arkansas, Arizona and many in its home state of Texas. The Cybertruck is in its final validation testing phase, with an anticipated delivery event sometime next month. Recent drone footage from Giga-Texas showcases Cybertrucks in various assembly stages, reflecting progress toward the vehicle's launch. The excitement surrounding the Cybertruck is building, aided by these early sightings that have become customary before Tesla's launches. Given the anticipation for this vehicle and its significance as Tesla's first pickup truck, the numerous leaks and sightings suggest that the long-awaited Cybertruck's release is imminent.
